Building a Budget-Friendly Shipping Container Workshop

TLDRFollow along as Cy and I build a budget-friendly workshop using shipping containers. We incorporate containers into the design to provide portable and weather-tight storage. The project includes prepping the building site, setting up the containers, adding windows, painting the containers, and creating a rooftop deck. Join us as we transform these containers into a functional and attractive workshop space.

Q&A

Why did you choose to use shipping containers for your workshop?

We love the portability and instant weather-tight storage that shipping containers provide. They are also readily available and cost-effective.

How did you keep costs low for this project?

We repurposed secondhand roof trusses, used shipping containers, and self-M lumber. Additionally, we used in-stock windows and DIY deck boards made from waste material.

Why did you add windows to the containers?

Adding windows not only improves the aesthetics of the workshop but also allows natural light into the space, reducing the need for artificial lighting.

What was the most challenging part of building the workshop?

Prepping the building site on a steep and rocky property proved to be a challenge. However, with the help of heavy machinery, we were able to level and flatten the area.

What are your future plans for the rooftop deck?

We have big plans for the rooftop deck, including incorporating a bridge, mountain bike jumps, and possibly a train. It will be a space for fun and creativity.
